Masquerade Rules and Information - Be a registered guest at Erie Anime Experience 2007 - Be the creator of most (80%) of the costume you are wearing or be with the person modeling the costume you created. You may not enter commissioned costumes into the contest unless you are the person who created it. In other words, if you just got online and paid for or asked a friend to make the costume for you, it cannot be entered. We welcome commissioned costumes to attend the convention, but to keep things fair, they may not participate in the Masquerade. 2. The categories for the Masquerade are as follows: * Youth (contestants aged 12 and younger) Major awards are considered to be any award that is not a judges award. These awards can be from both hall costuming and masquerade in previous conventions. If you wish to participate in an award level that is technically above your own feel free to do so if you are up to the challenge!! But you may not compete in an award level that is below you. For example, if you are considered to be a Journeyman, you may not compete in the novice category. If you have previously won at a higher level, you are expected to compete at that level or higher. Groups will be classified by the award level of the highest ranked member. For example, if you have a group of costumers doing a skit, and one of them is a Craftsman, no matter what the award levels are of the rest of the group, that group is considered to be at the Craftsmanship level. 4. Skits will have a time limit of 3 minutes, with an additional 10 seconds for each member. (Example: a group of 3 people would have 3:20 of stage time.) 5. All costumes worn in the masquerade must be of Japanese origin. Costumers of all kinds are welcome and encouraged at Erie Anime Experience but to compete they must be of Japanese Origin. Anime, Manga, Video Games, J-rock/pop/visual kei, EGL, etc. Klingons and Fire Benders are welcome, but cannot participate in the contest. Sorry! 6. All skits must be kept PG-13. Swearing in the skit or the music accompanying the skit will not be tolerated. All costumes must be something that would be appropriate for the beach of the public pool. Walking around in your underwear, is not appropriate. 7. All participants must attend and perform their skit at the rehearsal earlier in the day. failure to do so will result in the participants(s) not being allowed to perform in the show. This is done to make sure all skits are appropriate and to acquaint the sound/tech guys with the show. A well-rehearsed masquerade is a successful one! You do not have to wear your costume to the rehearsal as we understand that some outfits may be cumbersome or you may want to "debut" at the masquerade. If you wish to be judged on your craftsmanship at the rehearsal however to get it out of the way, there will be time allotted for that. 8. Awards will be given as per the following: Masquerade: * Best of Show - This award is given to the overall best skit in the show. The judges have the right to omit awards if necessary. 9. All participants under the age of 15 must have their parent or legal guardian with them at rehearsal. 10. There will be no walk-ons. Those cosplayers wishing to only show off their costume and pose a little may participate in the Fashion Show. F.A.Q.'s Q. My group helped each other make our costumes. None of us put a whole 80% into any one costume. But it was only us that worked on them. Q. I am doing a skit with children (under 12). What award category should we be under? Q. I want to cosplay one of the Disney characters from Kingdom Hearts, can I even if they are not of Japanese origin?
Do you want to show off your costume but you're not really up to making a skit? The fashion show is for you! This even will take place before the Masquearade.
